Born and raised in New Smyrna Beach, Jamie is an alumnus of the Coronado Pirates, The New Smyrna Beach Middle School Stingrays, and the New Smyrna Beach Barracudas. After graduating from N.S.B.H.S. in 2001, he attended Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Later Jamie attended Barry University’s Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in Orlando and became a member of the Florida Bar in 2010 whereupon he joined his grandfather and father in practice at their firm, “DeLoach & Peterson.” In 2014 he was joined by his brother, Matt, and after their grandfather retired and father left the practice of law, they formed Peterson Law Group, PLLC. In his 10+ years of practice as an attorney, Jamie’s areas of focus have been Real Estate, Estate Planning, and Probate, but what he enjoys most is continuing his family’s tradition of service to the greater New Smyrna Beach area and community.
As an involved member of the community, Jamie has worked with many not-for-profit organizations and has served on both public and charitable boards including the Canal Street Community Redevelopment Agency, the Hub on Canal, and the Southeast Volusia Humane Society. Continuing another family tradition, Jamie has spent countless hours at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex coaching youth soccer, baseball, and flag football. Matthew was born and raised in New Smyrna Beach and still enjoys the lifestyle that this beach town has to offer. He is passionate about service to his community, being a husband and father, and being an aggressive advocate for all his clients.
On the weekends, He prefers spending time with his children and wife, Erin. He also enjoys chasing Mahi-Mahi offshore, taming his constantly encroaching backyard/jungle, swimming, and reading historical non-fiction or historical fiction.
Matt has always been interested in technology, especially as it relates to economics and the law. He studied law and economics in Law school and conducted research into game theory and the law. Consequently, his law practice relies heavily on new forms of technology to conduct legal research and perform e-discovery. He is eagerly waiting for AI legal technology to improve so our firm can utilize that as well.

Phil grew up in New Smyrna Beach and graduated from New Smyrna Beach High School.
He attended Stetson University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance and then his Juris Doctor in 1981. He began his law career at the State Attorney’s Office, where he worked as Special Prosecutor and Felony Division Chief of the Daytona Beach Division for the Seventh Judicial Circuit. He later went into private practice in 1988 with his brother, Sid Peterson, at DeLoach & Peterson, now known as Peterson Law Group. Since entering into private practice, Phil has represented thousands of clients; his main areas of practice are Criminal Defense and Family. His criminal practice includes felonies, misdemeanors, violations of probation, domestic violence, expungements and sealing of records. His family practice includes dissolution of marriage, paternity, custody, modifications of child support and alimony, injunctions and adoptions. Phil is extremely proud of the thousands of adoptions he has handled over the past 30 years, helping children find their forever families.
David attended BYU-Idaho where he received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He worked as a tax accountant in Minnesota for Schwan’s and then in Nevada for Caesars Entertainment. David earned his educator credential from Sierra Nevada College and was a teacher for about 10-years prior to returning to Graduate school. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Idaho State University and his Juris Doctor from The University of North Dakota.
David and his family call New Smyrna Beach home. He has 3 sons with his wife of 20-years, Mandi. As a family, they enjoy bodyboarding and building sandcastles at the beach, walking their dog, visiting Walt Disney World, shooting BB Guns, and watching old MacGyver episodes. As a volunteer coach at the YMCA, David enjoys seeing youth develop athletic skills and a solid understanding of teamwork. David enjoys listening to insightful podcasts and learning new things. David hopes to serve his friends and neighbors for many years to come!

John R. Nelson, P.E., Esq. is an engineer and attorney with a wide breadth of experiences in both business and the community. John received his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida, his MBA from Clemson University, and his Juris Doctor from Barry University School of Law. John worked in a specialty chemicals manufacturing environment with a keen eye to waste and solvent recover. In Greenville, South Carolina, he managed an environmental engineering firm focused on Title V air permits, point source discharge permits, and stormwater management plans. In 1996, John started an aviation software company which he later sold, and then became Chief Product Officer for an aviation fuels company. Today, John works as a hands-on developer, patent attorney, and software company owner.
John has served on the Volusia County ECHO Board, Edgewater Economic Development Council, Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Volusia Kiwanis, Coronado United Methodist Day School Board, and President of the 1,300 home Waters Edge Homeowners Association.
John is a father of five, a long-distance bicyclist, pilot and resident of Port Orange.
John is a veteran of the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he worked as a jet engine mechanic and plane captain in strike fighter squadron VFA-143. During his time in the service, John completed two deployments aboard the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower. John graduated law school from the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law. Due to his lifelong fascination with aviation, John looks forward to engaging in the practice of aviation law. In addition to aviation law, he is especially interested in the many challenges that are presented in civil litigation.
